The
Gross Residence is a 4,000 square foot contemporary house nestled into
a sand dune on Lighthouse Road in Aquinnah and has spectacular, commanding
views of Vineyard Sound, the Elizabeth Islands and Menemsha Bight.
The home consists
of three building modules. Two modules contain the Master Bedroom, Living
Area, Dining Area, and Kitchen. These two modules connect to the third,
three Guest Bedroom module, with a covered deck bridge. All three modules
follow the original site topography, stepping down and across the original
dune. The buildings surround a small swimming pool that now occupies a
sandy hollow in the original topography which separated the original dune.
The design, shape and configuration of the Gross Residence responds to,
and incorporates, the original topography, zoning height limitations,
and sweeping views to create a contemporary vacation home capable of entertaining
many guests while maintaining individual privacy for its inhabitants. |
